Nintendo’s MP3 Player is confirmed, with a release date of December 8th, 2006 in Europe.

With this, the Nintendo DS Lite will be able to play music. This is a SD card based player, which will be powered and controlled by the Nintendo DS Lite. Sound will be routed through the DS Lite’s speakers, or can be listened to from the DS Lite’s headphone jack. This adaptor can also work with the Gameboy Advance, and Gameboy Micro. The MP3 Player is estimated to cost around 30 Euros, not including the actual SD card. As of now, the player has an incredibly cheesy interface.

Hey Elliot, I am crazy about Nintendo but recently I’ve lost a lot of faith in where they’re going with things. Tracking back to what I wrote about the DS’s TouchGeneration made web browser, see www.nostatus.com/btard/geek/11-2006/touch-generations-nintendo-ds-web-browser/

I try to make a comparison of the DS to the PSP. It’s not really a fair comparison outside of the “handheld gaming” aspect though is it? The PSP is so much more already build into one (albeit slightly larger) package. Touchscreen aside the DS doesn’t have a lot on the PS apart from classic Nintendo titles like Mario, Zelda, Kart games, Tetris (online is awesome!), Metroid, etc.

Anyway, my main focus is on Nintendo’s release of these “gimmicks”. I am waiting for someone to come up with a PSP, iPod, Camera, Cell all in one. Until then I definitely won’t be buying addons for my DS, I haven’t boethered to buy a DS Lite either. I’m not cool and I know it!
