The Apple TV

Here’s one of the lesser-praised Apple products at Macworld: the Apple TV.

The Apple TV essentially syncs your iTunes media (TV shows, movies, etc.) to your widescreen tv, so that you can watch your downloads on your TV, instead of having to watch them on your computer or Video iPod. The Apple TV has a 40 GB hard drive to store up to 50 hours of video, 9,000 songs, 25,000 photos, and has 720p output. Apple TV can auto synch to one computer, or stream media from up to five different computers. To use the Apple TV, you’ll need either an enhanced definition tv, or a high definition widescreen tv. The Apple TV comes with a remote that works up to 30 ft away. The Apple TV will ship in February, for a price of $299. To most people, the Apple TV will probably be useless, as the use iTunes mostly for music. However, for some people (those who download lots of media from iTunes) it will be a very useful gadget– allowing them to play all of their videos and such on a widescreen tv (and may also perhaps allow them to cancel their cable service to focus on downloading content from the iTunes store, which they’ll be able to keep and re-watch.

Sony is planning on releasing a new colour of the PSP.

The brand new colour will be champagne, or gold as some call it. Certainly it’s about time that Sony updated the PSP. We’ve been stuck with plain old black since the PSP’s launch in March 2005. The console will go on sale in Japan for $175 USD on February 22nd.

Apple Announces the iPhone!!

Posted in Apple, iPhone by Danielle on January 9th, 2007.

After years of speculation, Apple finally announces the iPhone, or Apple iPod phone to be more exact.

“iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting you control everything with just your fingers. So it ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, completely redefining what you can do on a mobile phone. ”

Here’s a list of specifications: runs OSX, a 3.5 inch touch screen, a 2 megapixel camera, 11.16 mm thin, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFI, quadband GSM radio, 16 hours of battery life for audio, 5 hours for video, Safari, Google Maps, EDGE, HTML email, web browsing, and available in 4 GB or 8 GB models. The iPhone also has support for three way conference calls, an i-Chat like service, Widget support, and photo management software. The iPhone is a bit pricey– it costs $499 for the 4 GB model, or $599 for the 8 GB model (with 2 year Cingular contracts). The Apple iPhone will be available in the US in June 2007, Europe in the fourth quarter of 2007, and Asia in 2008.
