Apple’s 3G 16GB iPhone for Europe?

Posted in Apple, iPhone by Andrew on September 9th, 2007.

Just one more piece of Apple related news, I swear.

I hope you didn’t buy a $399 iPhone just now, thinking that that’s the best it’s ever going to be. Because it looks like Apple is going to launch a 16GB iPhone with 3G capabilities in Europe. The above leaked ad from T-Mobile Germany shows the iPhone with HSDPA and UTMS with full 3.6 Mbps downloading speeds. Although the ad does mistakenly label the iPhone as an “iPod” once, it still seems in line with T-Mobile/Apple’s marketing. It’s also consistent with Apple’s timelines, ad Apple said that they would launch the iPhone in Europe in the 4th quarter. Look for the 3G iPhone to launch November 12th for the price of 499 Euros (687 USD).

Apple’s 2007 iPod Line Up- iPod Nano, Classic, and Touch

Posted in Ipod, Apple by Andrew on September 8th, 2007.

The most noticeable difference is the “matured” look of the iPods. Gone are the vibrant, young colours of the shuffles: now replaced by more subdued pastels.

The star of the line up is, of course, the iPod Touch. It’s the iPod that’s designed almost exactly like the iPhone. It has a 3.5 inch widescreen display, the “slide to unlock” feature, the ability to “flick” through your photos, WiFi, 22 hours of battery life with audio, and 5 hours when playing video. The iPod Touch is available in 8GB or 16GB, and it will cost you $299 or $399 respectively.

The next updated iPod is the iPod Classic: an update to the iPod video. It has a new interface with Cover Flow, and comes in 80GB or 160GB! Whoa… that’s a lot of music. The battery life is 30 hours for audio playback/6 hours of video playback for the 80GB version, and 40 hours of audio playback/7 hours of video playback for the mammoth 160GB player. The 80GB version will run you $249, while the 160GB one will cost you $349.

The iPod Nano (nicknamed the iPod “fatty” for its wider stature) is the third generation of iPod Nanos. The new iPod Nanos have a 2 inch QVGA screens that are 65% brighter than previous models, a new UI, and a Cover Flow feature. The Nanos also come with three games, and have improved battery life (24 hours for audio playback, 5 hours for video). The 4 GB model is only available in silver for $149, while the 8 GB model is available in a rainbow of colours for $199. If you’re looking into buying the Nano, think about buying the ProductRED nano, which gives a portion of the sale back to the Project Red Charity.

The iPod shuffle are the same adorable fellows as always, but now available in new colours! If screen-less mp3 players are your thing, then you can’t go wrong with the iPod Shuffle. Only $80 for 1 GB.

This is getting a little old.  Come on, Dell, just when we think your laptops are safe– one of them explodes again! Looks like this laptop exploded in Shanghai.  I must say, though, Dells certainly do go out with a bang!

How to Use your MP3s as Free iPhone Ringtones

Posted in Apple, iPhone by Andrew on September 8th, 2007.

Want nifty iPhone ringtones but don’t want to pay another 99 cents for the ringtone download, when you already own the song? Well, read on, my friend, read on. This works for up to iTunes 7.4.1.

apple-iphone-ringtones.jpg

The previous method was:

1. Create your ringtone, and save as an AAC.

2. Rename AAC as a .M4R track.

3. Double-click to play.

Now, for the iTunes 7.4.1 update:

1. Rename the .M4R track as a M4A.

That’s all you have to do! Then you can upload it onto your iPhone for happy ring-tone use… until Apple updates iTunes again, that is, and tries to force you to spend money on unnecessary things.
