Is This the Nikon D90?

This is probably too good to be true, but Nikon Rumors claims they have leaked pictures of what they believe will be Nikon’s D90- the successor to the wildly popular D80 camera. Personally, the above camera looks like a hastily photoshopped Nikon D80 (notice the shabby D90 indicator), but only time will tell.

Nikon D300 DSLR Bad Boy Camera

Nikon is releasing the D300 DSLR- a 12 megapixel camera with 14 bit A/D conversion, EXPEED image processor, up to ISO 6400, CAM 3500DX AF Sensor (51 point), HDMI video output, UDMA CF support, and a 3 inch 922,000 Pixel LCD screen. The D300 will be available in November for about $1,800.

On buying the D300, Ken Rockwell states recommends the following: “The Nikon D300 has some new tricks, a negligible few more pixels, a faster frame rate (6 or 8 FPS vs 5 FPS in the D200) and a magnificent high-resolution LCD.

The D300 also costs more than the D200. The D200 runs about $1,500 – $1,650, while the D300 will be $1,800.

If you already own a D200 and are on a budget, I wouldn’t run out to exchange cameras unless you’re doing sports and get the MB-D10 grip for 8 FPS.

If you’re getting a new camera, I’d pay extra to get the D300 instead of the D200. This is because the genius is in the details, like color interpretation and highlight overload handing, which are never specified or measured well. Nikon learns a lot every year, and most of the genius of the D300 goes into things far more subtle than its megapixel count.”

Nikon D40 Pictures Leaked

Pictures of the Nikon D40 budget DSLR have been leaked onto the internet.

These pictures show a 6 megapixel CCD, 3 point focusing, but also the sad absence of auto focusing and a status LCD. Because the D40 lacks so many top level features, it is quite probable that the D40 is actually a budget, low end DSLR digital camera from Nikon, targeted towards the average consumer.

Nikon’s D80 Gets Official

Nikon’s D80 digital camera is official. Check the press release.

So here are the specs (drum roll please!): 10.2 megapixels DX CCD image sensor, Nikon F mount lens, 11 area autofocus, 0.18 seconds boot up, 80 ms shot response, 3D Color Matrix Metering II, and an SD slot. The D80 also sports a 2.5 inch LCD, can take 3 frames per second (fps) and can capture up to to 2,700 pictures on a single battery charge. Nikon’s D80 will be available September 2006, and will cost $999 for the body, or $1299 for the body and the 18-135 mm zoom lens.

Chasseur d’Images got their hands on some new Nikon D80 pictures. If you look at Nikon’s publicity countdown (a countdown to the day when Nikon will officially dish out the specs on their new D80), you’ll see there are still 10 days left. All we know right now is that the D80 will be a 10.2 megapixel DSLR camera.

Nikon Coolpix S5

Nikon’s Coolpix S5 is an ultra slim 6 megapixel camera with a 2.5 inch LCD screen, a non extending 3x zoom lens, and scene modes for new camera users. DC Views was pleased overall with the camera, noting that, “Its durable built and solid construction will ensure many years of trouble free use”, but the price was a bit steep (it retails for approximately $300).

Lets Go Digital has an exclusive preview of the Nikon P1 Digital Camera. The Nikon P1 is a 8.31 megapixel camera, with 36mm zoom wide, and 123 zoom tele. The camera has a 2.5″ LCD display, and features such as anti-red-eye, slow flash, and self-timer. The feature, however, for which the Nikon P1 is most lauded, is the P1’s wireless capabilities.
