    canon sd 700 back.jpg
CNET reviewed the Canon Powershot SD 700 IS and gave it a 7.8/10, “Compared to its siblings in Canon’s SD line of compact point-and-shoot cameras, the top-end SD700 IS packs more features into its small frame than higher resolution. It shares the same 6-megapixel sensor as its peers, the PowerShot SD600 and SD630 but has a longer zoom lens and image stabilization to curb blurry photos. The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is compact, though slightly larger than the other two models. Still, it’s the right size to slip into a jacket or a loose pants pocket. At 6.8 ounces, it’s a bit heavy for its small size, giving it a nice, solid feel.Image quality, much like performance, rates as excellent. The SD700 IS reproduces color very well, and images are clean with few processing flaws. Photos remain consistent and noise-free at low-to-moderate ISO speeds and are acceptable even at ISO 400. At ISO 800, we noticed some distinct noise in our photos, but it was a clean, grainlike noise that left the images very usable. Furthermore, lens sharpness remains relatively consistent around the edges, unlike with some similar cameras. This helps keep fringing to a minimum. The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is a very strong, compact digital camera that produces great pictures. Its price is a bit high compared to that of its little brothers, the SD600 and SD630, but its great image stabilization and subsequent blur-free photos are worth the extra few quid.”
    top sd 700.JPG
Megapixel writes and reports, “The big news in the super compact Canon camera range is the addition of an optical stabilizer on the new PowerShot SD700 IS (called IXUS 800 in Europe), the first in that series to offer such a system. Just as remarkable is the fact that the SD700 retains the dimensions of its predecessor, the SD550, but has the addition of 4X optical zoom, a 6-megapixel resolution, and a 2.5-inch monitor. The PowerShot SD700 IS continues the design formula that has proven successful with previous SD cameras. Although the body of the camera is very compact, external controls are positioned in a logical way, making them easily memorized.”

    Canon PowerShot SD700 Review

Posted in Cameras, Canon by Danielle on June 29th, 2006.

Canon’s PowerShot SD 700 is an amazing piece of technology, with 6.0 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, and a 2.5 inch LCD. Yet, surprisingly, it only weighs 5.8 ounces!

    canon powershot 700.jpg

As Imaging Resource writes, “The Canon SD700 IS sits at the top of Canon’s popular “SD” series of digital cameras. Like other SD models, it’s slim and trim, with a small, rugged metal case with slightly rounded corners and a retracting lens to make it highly pocketable. What’s really unique about the Canon SD700 IS is that it incorporates Canon’s excellent Image Stabilization (”IS”) technology that drastically reduces the effects of camera shake at slow shutter speeds or long zoom settings. This means you can shoot in poor light without having to put the camera on a tripod to avoid the camera shake. (IS typically lets you take crisp shots under light conditions four times darker than you could manage without it.) Even without its unique IS capability, the Canon SD700 IS is a feature-packed little camera, and offers a large, bright 2.5″ LCD display that’s great both for framing your shots and showing them to friends afterwards. Its 6-megapixel sensor has plenty of resolution to make crisp enlargements, even with significant cropping of its images.

Bottom line, the Canon PowerShot SD700 would be a great choice for users looking for a compact, rugged, and stylish model for a ” take-anywhere” digital camera, with Canon’s powerful image stabilization technology as an added bonus for better photos in dim lighting.”

CNET gave the Canon PowerShot SD700 a 7.8/10:

“The good: Great performance and pictures; effective image stabilization; attractive, comfortable design.

The bad: No aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes; awkward optical viewfinder and power button.

The bottom line: The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS has practically everything you could want in a compact camera, though you might think the price tag a bit steep. “
