World’s Largest Moose

Although the world’s largest moose isn’t exactly a gadget, it’s still pretty awesome! This moose (will stand 150 feet tall and will house a Restaurant, Conference Center, and Concert Hall. Where, exactly, would people actually think of building such a moose? Sweden, of course! With a max capacity of 350 people, who can enter through an elevator disguised as a tree, the moose will cost 6.5 million dollars. Construction should begin before the end of the year. When the creator of the moose, Thorbjörn Holmlund, heard that his idea had been approved after three years of planning, he said: “This is such unbelievably good news. My whole body is shaking with joy. People have really wanted to make this happen. There have been plenty of days when I have come close to crying but today I can do nothing but laugh.” For more information on the Moose, click here.

Here’s a promotional video of the World’s Largest Moose.

Google has set up a $30 million fund to encourage a moon race in conjunction with the X PRIZE Foundation. The winning team will receive $20 million, but in order to win you must land a privately created spacecraft on the moon and have your spacecraft perform certain tasks (travel 500 meters and transmit high definition video images back to earth). The second placed team will receive $5 million, and another $5 million is set aside for “bonus prizes.”

The Mercury News reports that “Peter Diamandis, chief executive of the X PRIZE Foundation, said in a statement that the goal of the competition is to stimulate the development of low-cost methods for robotic space exploration.

“The use of space has dramatically enhanced the quality of life and may ultimately lead to solutions to some of the most pressing environmental problems that we face on earth – energy independence and climate change,” Diamandis said.”
