Want to win $25,000?- Aaron Schwarz’s Name Contest
Now this is not a gadget. It is also neither cute nor adorable. But what this is, is freakin’ awesome, and highly unlikely.
This is a naming contest. Yes, that’s right: a naming contest. And not the naming contest of a unborn chid, but the naming of a 32 year old man, whose current name is Aaron Schwarz. Aaron Shwarz does not like his current name. As he is trying to become a rock star, or “an aloof, insanely eccentric, overweight, music mogul billionaire by the age of 40″, Aaron Schwarz deems he needs a new name. That’s where the rest of the world comes in (or anyone who wants $25 k). As his website states, “I figured, rather than dealing with the boredom of researching mythological deities or wasting my precious time looking through popular books of names, I would just get the entire population of the world to do the job for me. Oh yeah, I’m going to give $25,000 to whoever suggests the best name.” You can submit up to 20 names. Then, Aaron Schwarz will pick the ten names he likes best, and post the results on his site. Here’s where it gets even more interesting (and weird): the public then votes on the name it likes best, and Aaron Schwartz will legally change his name to the winning name. Weird? Yes. A little crazy? Definetly. But, 25,000 pretty much speaks for itself. Needless to say, I’ll be entering, even though as of today (August 2, 2006) over 36,000 names have been entered.
