iPhone Firmware 2.0 Hacked!

The iPhone Dev Team has hacked the latest iPhone firmware within days of the 3G iPhone (and subsequent 2.0 firmware) being released. This means that you can jailbreak (allow your iPhone or iTouch to run Apps developed outside of the realm of Apple) and unlock your iPhone or iTouch (to allow it to run on different networks like T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon). Here’s the link to the step by step directions for using Pwnage with a 2G iPhone. Here’s the 3G jailbreak guide. The Pwnage 2.0 tool is really easy to use, too. For jail-breaking, unlocking, and updating a never before pwned 2G iPhone, all I had to do was upgrade iTunes to 7.7, download the 2.0 iPhone firmware, download Pwnage 2.0, and download two different bootloaders (3.9 and 4.6). Then, follow the directions, and voila! You’ll soon have an unlocked, jailbroken iPhone for free! Major props to the iPhone Dev Team. My favourite thing about the new firmware is, of course, all of the new apps in the iTunes store. There are a lot of fee apps that are incredibly useful (like the Facebook App, Urbanspoon, BoxOffice, Pandora). So, what are you waiting for? Get Pwning!

Say Hello to the 3G iPhone

Steve Jobs announced the new 3G iPhone at today’s WWDC Keynote. The new iPhone boasts GPS, 3G data, an updated design (including options of black or white for the 16 GB model), better battery life, and a whole lot more! Plus, the new iPhone will be substantially cheaper than the older model. With a 2 year contract, the 8 GB 3G iPhone will cost $199, and the 16 GB model will only cost $299. The new iPhone will also have iPhone Firmware 2.0- the newest version of the iPhone’s software. Sadly, you won’t be able to get your hands on the iPhone until July 11th : ( But, click here to get more information from Apple in the meantime!

3G iPhone Launch Date: June 9th!

Is the world ready for yet another iPhone? Are new iPhone users prepared to lament their purchases in the face of an earth-breaking announcement for Apple? Does anyone really care about the new 3G iPhone? Perhaps, not. All the same, it has been confirmed that Apple will officially announce the 3G version of the iPhone on June 9th at WWDC. Yay?
AT&T’s “iPhone Black” Oops

Today, AT&T’s website gave the model option of “iPhone Black” when consumers tried to purchase an iPhone. Huh. Weird. It’s strange because there currently is no iPhone Black. Telecom Italia Mobile’s Executive VP Luigi Licciardi confirms that they’ll be selling the 3G iPhone next month. AT&T backtracked after this was discovered and claimed that the “iPhone Black” option was merely a placeholder for the 16 GB model. Yet, this makes no sense at all, since the 16 GB iPhone has never been called the iPhone Black and is not a separate model from the other iPhones. Looks like this one is out of the bag, Apple. Look forward to the 3G iPhone within the upcoming month!
