Netflix Offers Unlimited Streaming, Tolls the End of Blockbuster

Effective immediately, any Netflix customers with unlimited plans will be able to download an unlimited number of movie rentals per month. Currently, Netflix boasts over 6,000 movies and shows available for download (compared with the over 90,000 titles that are available by mail). Yet, this number is sure to increase rapidly to keep up with consumer interest. This may be the last nail in the coffin of traditional movie renting; although Blockbuster tried to keep up to Netflix through Blockbuster Online, only a rival online download plan will save them now. Netflix continues to revolutionize the media industry. With a starting price of $8.99 for unlimited movie rental downloads, Netflix is sure to gain a huge number of new users. [CES08] I-mu I-Jerry Confuses… Intrigues

Most people wouldn’t think of creating a bunny speaker. But the folks at I-mu did (to be fair, they also created a singing table). I-mu I-Jerry is “lovely, cute, smart, and brave” according to his press release. What does he do, you say? Good question! With 1 GB of on board memory and ear controls, I-Jerry’s butt vibrates on whatever surface he’s on and transforms it into a speaker. Innovative, no? Although I imagine the sound quality to be a bit sub-par, the I-mu I-Jerry is an intriguing gadget, nonetheless. The I-Jerry will launch sometime this year for $99.

UK Shoots to Power Every Home with Wind Energy by 2020

The UK is taking giant strides in promoting green sources of energy. Recently, Britain has announced plans to power every home with the energy generated from off-shore wind plants by 2020. Yet, in order to achieve this goal, the UK must increase wind power production by 60-fold (wind generated power currently accounts for only 2% of its energy generation) and greatly alter the look of its coastlines by putting up turbines. Business secretary John Hutton stated that the UK must vastly increase the amount of space used for wind farms on Britain’s shores. Right now, the plan is hindered by a lack of turbines; the turbines are necessary to increase the amount of energy produced from half a gigawatt to the goal of 33 gigawatts. There are a lot of ways a person can blow $75k: investing, a new car, tons of games… or even a new toilet. That’s right, the Swarovksi crystal studded toilet from designer Jemal Wright’s “Isis” collection will run you a whopping $75,000. So instead of helping poor children or even yourself, you can spend your money on this shiny toilet. Wow. Great investment. If that’s not enough for you, rest assured that Jemal Wright plans to ice a sink and double slipper tub by 2008.
