The Apple TV
Here’s one of the lesser-praised Apple products at Macworld: the Apple TV.

The Apple TV essentially syncs your iTunes media (TV shows, movies, etc.) to your widescreen tv, so that you can watch your downloads on your TV, instead of having to watch them on your computer or Video iPod. The Apple TV has a 40 GB hard drive to store up to 50 hours of video, 9,000 songs, 25,000 photos, and has 720p output. Apple TV can auto synch to one computer, or stream media from up to five different computers. To use the Apple TV, you’ll need either an enhanced definition tv, or a high definition widescreen tv. The Apple TV comes with a remote that works up to 30 ft away. The Apple TV will ship in February, for a price of $299. To most people, the Apple TV will probably be useless, as the use iTunes mostly for music. However, for some people (those who download lots of media from iTunes) it will be a very useful gadget– allowing them to play all of their videos and such on a widescreen tv (and may also perhaps allow them to cancel their cable service to focus on downloading content from the iTunes store, which they’ll be able to keep and re-watch.
Apple’s Suprise: the iTV
Slowly, Apple is taking over all media entertainment. Macbook and Macbook Pro? Check. iPod? Check. iTV? Soon to be, check. This was the big suprise of Steve Job’s September 12th announcements. The iTV essentially sends all your media from your iPod or Computer (PC or Macs) straight to your TV, so that you can watch it on a nice big screen. Plus, the iTV is completely wireless, and thus, no messy cords to deal with! The iTV will be available in the first quarter of next year, 2007, for a price os $299.

Look, a nice, shiny prototype!!
The Best of CES: TVs
Among all of the TVs showcased at CES, two were far cooler than the rest.
First, there’s Sony’s slider tv, the TAV-32FL2. As soon as your done watching tv, or when you want to play a CD, the speaker system actually slides up to hide the TV display.
While this is only a conceptual product right now, Sony executives did hint that this tv might be avaliable on the market before the end of the year.
Another cool tv is Samsung’s HL-S5679W DLP HDTV.
This HDTV has a 56″ screen, and because it is lit by LEDs, there is no “rainbow effect”, a common problem with most DLP HDTVs. Avaliable in April, the HL-S5679 W will retail for $4,199.
Plush Crab LCD TV
This cutie will be on everyone’s (including my) christmas list this holiday season.
It’s a Hasbro 10 inch LCD tv, lined with a soft plush crab. Made for children, buttons are large for easy use, and the tv is made from non-toxic materials. The tv also shows clear, consistent colour, and life like detail with 800 by 600 pixel resolution. Plus, it comes with a matching controller!!
