My hat’s off to this Vietnamese forum. One of their members managed to grab a hold of Fujitsu’s upcoming Lifebook U2010 and fully investigate it! We now know that the U2010 will sport an Atom CPU (either at 1.6 or 1.8 GHz), a 5.6″ 1024×768 display, 1 GB of RAM, an 80 GB Hard Drive, a 3G Radio, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Additionally, this lilliputian UMPC will weigh under 680 grams (1.5 pounds)! We don’t yet know where or when the U2010 Lifebook will be launched, but we do know that it will cost around $1300.

Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC Review

Posted in Samsung, UMPC by Danielle on July 3rd, 2007.

TrustedReviews recently reviewed Samsung’s Q1 Ultra UMPC, which is a beefed up version of the original Q1 UMPC. The Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC runs Windows Vista, has 1 GB of RAM, a 60 GB Hard Drive, a 7 inch LCD screen with 1200 x 600 resolution, Bluetooth and a SD card slot. The Samsung Q1 runs on an Intel A110 ULV 800 Mhz Processor. Trusted Reviews writes the Verdict:
“The Q1 Ultra is a big improvement over the original Q1. The screen is superb, the interface far more intuitive and the whole package is simply more usable. Despite this, I’m still not convinced about the UMPC platform itself, and I fail to see why anyone would opt for a Q1 Ultra instead of an ultra-portable notebook, like Samsung’s own Q40.
However, if you are sold on the UMPC form factor, and like the idea of a device that’s smaller than a notebook, but can potentially perform many of the same duties, then you’ll probably love the Q1 Ultra. Considering how much better Samsung’s second generation UMPC is than the original Q1; I’m very keen to see what Samsung will come up with next.”

Mossberg also writes that, “The Samsung UMPC still isn’t a mainstream product, or one that I’d recommend for most average users. It does run the full version of Windows Vista or Windows XP, but it’s still too compromised to replace a small laptop for most folks.

However, I do see the Q1 Ultra as a decent choice for people willing to put up with some limitations in return for the ability to carry a real Windows computer that is as small as a thin hardcover book and weighs almost nothing. These users include students and frequent business travelers who mainly want to take notes, write emails, do instant messaging and Web surfing, and play music and videos.”
