my son bought one of your mp3 players and it got wet, the screen comes on for a while and then it goes dim. the only way to see it is to hold it sideways. is there anything that we can do to get it to stay on??
by the way. they wound very nice. his is a blue one that wal-mart said that they don;t carry anymore

The box may not be damaged. The light automcaticlly dims after you hit play from what I assume is a preset deafult to save energy. After all it only runs off a AAA battery. Yet it can run for days off this.

I got it to listen to sermons in mp3 (check http://www.sermonaudio.com ). I was able to load 183 sermons into it on only one Gig. I was floored at the amount of room.

Anyways, it’s a great little player at a superb price. If it got wet & was ruined that doesn’t make it in any way deffective, after all.

i think that for the price you definately cant go wrong.i dont have any complaints, and for the first guy that left your review, that is just ignorant! that is like saying that your television is defective cause you tried to watch it at the bottom of your pool and it wouldnt power up! some people are just dumb

i bought this mp3 player but the player won’t read any of the songs i put on it. the songs are there, since my computer will read the songs off of the device, but i can’t actually use it the way it was intended. any idea of what might have gone wrong?

Check your file formats. It can only play mp3 and wma. After that, try re-encoding a couple songs to mp3 or wma and see if it works.

You have to use windows media player and “sync” the music from your library to the device. Believe me I discovered this after much heartache and madness from trying to figure it out.

    I got a ilo 1GB mp3 player.
My ilo shows the word “record”, but the pamphlet that came with my ilo says nothing about recording or how. I’m assuming it can ‘voice record’.
What I want to do is record a song I like from a video clip I have saved in my favorites – how do I do this?

I just bought the 1GB one. I saw that someone said that you have to use Windows Media Player. I have a large library already in MusicMatch. Does this mean I won’t be able to drag songs from MusicMatch into this player? Will I have to create a new library in Windows Media Player first?

For the incorrect format issues / acting funky issues : just connect the device to your pc and treat it like a regular storage drive: browse to it and either delete all the .dat files in the there, or right click on the drive and select format. This clears up a lot of problems. (I did this and some of the files came back, but had a file size of 0. Didn’t have any problems afterwards.)

You can really store any file on here: I keep ebooks on the expansion disk, or files for work– .mp3s on the main drive. You don’t need to do anything to transefer or copy the files, either. I don’t I use Windows Media Player, and I haven’t touched the instation Cd. I use an open-source ripper, rip them as .mp3s and just copy the files onto the drive.

    Hope this helps somebody.

We purchased the ilo 1G for our daughter at christmas time. The volume button broke after 3 months. So we took it back and exchanged it for another one. after 4 months that volume button broke. We contacted them about this problem and they said it was too late, they would not do anything because the 90 days was up from the original purchase. I see from a reply in may that someone else has this problem. I wonder if this happens often. I think a product should work more than 3-4 months after purchase. Don’t you???

Well this is a cheap mp3 player for 1GB. I have one and it worked very well when I first had it. About 3 months after the radio didn’t work. It would reset itself and go to the first song on the song list. Then 4 months later it got crushed in my backpack and the screen lookes like a lava lamp. Then in the same place the volume button got shoved in and now the volume can’t be turned up, only down. And just recently it keeps reseting itself. The screen gets very bright, dims down, and then for a second turns off. It does this over and over until I pull out the battery. Seriously it is not the most dependable player. Does ILO have a website?

I had the problem with the message of having to format the drive….. I have tried everything I know which is actually quite a bit being a former senior technician for Dell, but I just couldnt do it. I just brought it back to walmart and exchanged it… They are good about that. I think what may have happened is that one of the songs I downloaded using the almighty Kazzaa may have had a virus. I guess when u get free illegal music you get what u pay for…

This is a warning to anyone thinking about buying the ILO 1gb mp3 player! I recieved my ILO for christmas of 2005 it worked perfectly for about a month, then one day while at school I set it down on a desk (softly mind you ) and suddenly it said format files. Well, I sent a message to support@siren.com (I think thats what it is) and they gave me some instructions on how to fix it. That worked, but then about a week later the power button broke. I contacted siren again and they told me to take it back to the place of purchase… which I did, they replaced it with another ILO 1gb and a similar thing occured 2x!!! First an error then something mysteriously broke. Well just a few days ago I went back to walmart and complained that my ILO wasnt working yet again they allowed me to replace the ILO with a Scandisk Mp3 player. No problems with that yet. THANK YOU WALMART for allowing me to return. My suggestion is for everyone who has an ILO to take it back to the store and tell them what a hard time you’e been having with it!

    Hope this helps!

Seems that Siren products all have problems with them. We purchased another Siren MP3 player for our son back in January. We changed the battery after about 2 or 3 weeks and got a message to reformat. Tried to reformat and couldn’t. Contacted Siren’s customer service and they told us how to reformat, but that didn’t work. Contacted them again and they gave us the same instructions they gave us before. I tried to take the product back to Walmart (after only a month) and even with the receipt, they refused to take it back. Said they never sold that product. Mind you, I had the receipt from the same store… idiots!!! Siren honored the warranty, but it took four months and not less than 3 phone calls and several emails going back and forth until we finally got this replacement. This company is not good to deal with and I would not recommend purchasing their products. So far we have not had any issues with this new player, but again, with the run around we got just trying to get a repair or even the replacement took way too long and every time I talked to someone their, they just gave me one sad excuse after another.

    Hi,
I bought my son an ilo mp3 player three years ago. He has had no problems with it. The little player has also been through the wash twice and the dryer once and keeps on working. The first time it went through the wash we dried it out with a hair dryer. So I would recommend the ilo.

I bought this MP3 Player, and would have to say mine was fragile at best. It was slower than my other siren mp3 player, and the plastic felt really cheap. Well, low and behold, we hit a bump in the car, and the thing test out gravity and hits the ground. The plastic buttons were pushed in, and there was a rattling inside. I found use for it after that, though. I unscrewed the cover (I don’t recommend this to everyone) and saw where the switches/buttons were, lined up the plastic, and made it work again. The second time I dropped it, a couple switches came off, LoL. I still used it, albeit with the face completely off, and a paperclip to simulate the switches/buttons. Everything was going fine until, at lat, the screen has died, and it is very impractical as anything other than a flash drive. I don’t use windwos, I use Linux, and normalls I can mount it/unmount it no problem, but recently it can’t even be mounted/written to. How do I fix this? I presume a reformatting would work, but have not tried. Anyway, there are loads of better quality MP3 players out there for ya’ll, but you get what you pay for!

  46. Andrew said:

    on August 26th, 2006 at 11:55 pm

Oh yea, and there is a limited warranty, not a lifetime warranty, and they have no obligation to you to make a product that say it will last to infinity. Also size of each song matters. I easily put over 400 songs on mine, in mp3pro format, which is compressed at the same CD quality of WMA (Ew…microsoft). Also, flash memory is not permanent, and it “wears” with usage, though that doesn’t seem to be any of ya’ll’s problems. Hope you’re a little more informed.

I’ve been using my MP3 ilo for almost 2 years without problems, yesterday started to display “no files” even when the internal memory has mp3 files.

I just reinstall firmware (1.116) and it back to life. If you need software to repair your firmware, just write to support@sirenplayer.com and ask for it or goggle it.

I really like this device, sorry I can’t say the same for my ipod shuffle.

Emailed Siren now a half dozen times..at least some of you are getting a response..none so far for me..not a single thing…guess they’re getting tired of seeing the samer old thing from their “past” customers. i like the ilo mp3 player when it has fm recording and the fact that when it freezes in a full blue moon you can take out the battery and it will run again and it is really light weight and not big like a ghetto ipod! Also i like the fact that it can run on windows 98SE and it comes with a long usb cord and the light on it is really good and the batteey will last for days if you put it hold in your packet so it does not turn on. you do not have to reformat the ilo becuase you have to rstart your computer because the pc has a really big problem sometimes when it finds out that you are using windows media player Duh!

You probably need to reload the firmware for the player. I contacted the support department and they sent me a link to the firmware installer. After running the software my Mp3 player is functional once again. Here you go:

Thank you for contacting Siren Audio Support. In order to flash your player’s firmware, please follow these steps:

Please connect the player to a rear USB port on the computer. The display should show “USB Connected”. (If not, please press the power button.)
Please make sure that all unused programs and applications are closed. You can close the applications by closing as many of the icons in the lower right hand corner (by the clock) as possible.
    Download the correct Firmware

Click here to download the Siren 512 Firmware
    - https://system.netsuite.com/core/media/media.nl?id=16075&c=432868&h=68a87fdefb1fe2d5903b&_xt=.zip

Click here to download the ILO 116 Firmware
    - https://system.netsuite.com/core/media/media.nl?id=16076&c=432868&h=b25618a8ea7ead5c9573&_xt=.zip

Click Open to initiate the download
Double click on the ILO or Siren folder icon. There will be 14 icons.
There will be a Setup icon that looks like a box with a blue line on it; please double click on this.
Then click Run – this will open the Install Wizard.
The Install Wizard has the instructions on the screen as you go through it.
Once the firmware has installed, please click the Start menu, then Programs.
Look for the icon that says ILO or Siren, and then double click the Firmware Update to install to the player. Depending on how severe the corruption to the firmware on the player is, you might have to do this step 2 or 3 times in order for it to completely repair the firmware.

Additional Tip: The player itself requires a lot of power while flashing the firmware. We suggest disconnecting all USB devices from the computer except the MP3 player and mouse; you can reconnect your keyboard once the firmware has been flashed.

This should resolve the problem. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reply to support@sirenplayer.com (including the entire e-mail thread) or call us at 254-224-0222. We are open Monday – Friday, from 8:00AM to 8:00PM CST.

HAVANA (AP) Photographs of Fidel Castro standing and talking on the phone were published Sunday in Cuba’s state-run media, a day after the ailing leader appeared in a video to dispel rumors he was on his deathbed.

The Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde dedicated its front page to the Cuban president, printing a blown-up picture of a pensive Castro with the title “Always fighting for something, and fighting with optimism!”

So, whenever I turn my ilo mp3 player on, it gets as far as the “Searching Song Files…” screen, and then it goes back to the “ilo” entrance screen, and repeats these two screens ad infiniatum.
    Any help?

Purchased iLO 5xx at Walmart – tried to load it and discovered it would not load corectly on my xp sp2 box with WMP 11 installed on it. Took the Player to a machine with WMP 10 and all works correctly. Microsofts web site states that some mp3 players will not work corectly after installing WMP 11. Apparently this device is affected. Do not try to use WMP 11 and this device at this time, the manufacture of the iLO device has been made aware of the issue and has stated they will look into the problem

I purchased at full price, before Walmart Clearanced the ilo 1 gb mp3 player. I can’t find a online manual, we have misplaced ours.

    1) Is a Ilo Website ?

    2) I downloaded a Walmart song onto my computer, transfered the song onto the Ilo, but it shows the song is there, but it won’t play, it just skips right over it.

I would appreciate your help! This was a christmas gift for my 9 year old son.

After the 90 days, all you have to do is go to Wal-mart and buy another one. Then, return the broken one in the new packaging with the new receipt. Insist that you don’t simply exchange it, as you don’t want another POS. Now go buy a different brand.

I bought one of these things yesterday; should have researched first. Will probably bring it back tonight.

Don’t worry about Wal-Mart losing money on your crappy MP3 player. Aren’t they now the largest retail store in the world…? I’m sure they can absorb not making a profit on your sale; same as if you never bought it in the first place. Wal-Mart doesn’t care about you. Let them have their ILO back.

Is there any player that doesn’t require Windows Media Player to synch?!

I’m thinking some by Samsung don’t require it, but am not sure.

To me, that is just one more layer of things to go wrong. I bought a Memorex 2 GB and loved it for the 15 minutes that it kinda worked.

Media Player was a HUGE headache, it would move files around even though I set it to not, it wouldn’t let me do things that seemed simple like sort songs alphabetically.

I just want a flash-drive that plays music, why is that so difficult??

HI ,I have the firmware for ILO, 1gb, plus a couple of trix to fix the device, for thoses of you who aren’t afraid to open it, you could replace the push button who are really “fragile”. Mine is 2yr old and I had to fix it a lot. When uploading new song, you probably need to re-format and redo the sync in media player. All other feature works well, and keep in mind that 1gb for less than 100$, have to come with some “cheap” features. Plus, you could put a 2-3gb card in it to boost your memory.

Any question are welcome since the Siren company will probably not anser your email.: patcouriel75@hotmail.com

This device is ****. Fortunately I got it for free from a friend — now I see why it was free. I use it for its internal storage as a USB flash drive. It frequently cuts out in the middle of transfers, even small files. It disconnects, the drive disappears, I cannot access it, and it doesn’t reappear for a while.

I can download things to it but I have to be quick and I have to get only a handful before it disconnects arbitrarily. Not worth the money — get one for free from a friend if you can, and then rob somebody of 100 dollars with it. Easiest scam ever.
